Fit reports

Some industries suit this. Some do not. We say which.

Each report applies the same four questions to one industry and shows its working, so the score can be checked rather than taken. Some conclude that the fit is poor, and say so.

The four questions

Structural, not technical.

None of these is a question about how sophisticated the business is today. All four are about the shape of the work.

  1. 01

Is there a prior case to follow?

Software needs an earlier case whose treatment is the answer to the current one. Where every case is a first case, it is not following a rule, it is guessing.

  2. 02

Does the work pass through a screen?

It can act on text, documents and messages, and on nothing else. Where what you sell is made somewhere a screen is not, it handles the paperwork about the work, not the work.

  3. 03

    Who do the rules name?

Duties that attach to a registered entity are indifferent to who discharged them. A licence held by a named person, or a sign-off carrying personal liability, is a ceiling that does not move.

  4. 04

    Does the setup pay back?

Configuring once per customer and reading it on every run is fine. A rule set that has to be re-derived on every job recurs at the same rate as the work.
